Description

One of the earliest established lookouts (1914) in what was then the Chelan National Forest, Sugarloaf Mountain Lookout has been staffed every summer since and oversees some of the fastest burning forest fuels in Washington.

The 1933-vintage L-4 cab was moved to the site in 1949, replacing a cupola cabin. The lookout was threatened by the 120,000 acre Entiat Fire in 1970, and again in 1994 by the 180,000 acre Tyee-Hatchery Fire. The structure was saved by a Ft. Lewis fire crew, but the outhouse and garage were burned.
